A Brief History
Growing up in Geelong, in Victoria. It was here where Matthew originally trained as a signwriter prior to the onset of computer graphics. He completed a four year apprenticeship, where he learnt all the aspects of hand crafted lettering and graphics.
After completing his apprenticeship Matthew spent some time working and travelling in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. Inspired by his travels, he decided to return to Australia and further his studies in art and design.
Matthew studied design at the Gordon Technical College in Geelong and the University of Ballarat, graduating with a Diploma in Visual Arts and a Diploma in Graphic Design. While in Ballarat he 'cut his teeth' as an in-house designer for an advertising agency. He worked on everything from print advertising, photography through to TV commercials. It was a great hands-on role where Matthew had to be versatile and a 'jack-of-all-trades'.
In 2005 he moved to Melbourne where he worked as an in-house designer for a number of marketing departments in the clothing and education sector. In 2009 after the birth of his son he decided to take the plunge and start his own practice as a freelance designer and illustrator.
Since working as a freelance designer, some of his clients include: French Connection UK, Penguin Random House and Deakin University. His illustration work has been published internationally and printed as textile patterns and tee shirts.
Parallel with his commercial work is his fine art - painting and printmaking. A number of his artworks have been sold to personal collectors within Australia and overseas.
